St. Augustine of Canterbury
Share a story
Our parish began as a Church of England chaplaincy over 170 years ago. The church of St. Augustine was built in 1865, and two daughters of Queen Victoria were frequent visitors in the 1870s and 1880s, Princess Victoria (later Empress of Germany as the wife of the future Kaiser Friedrich III) and Princess Helena.
With the exception of the war years, St. Augustine's has been continually open for worship in the Anglican tradition. In 1966 the church was badly damaged by fire and was restored in1967. The original crucifix, in a charred state, can still be seen at the rear of the church.
In the mid-1990s the parish formally affiliated with the U.S.-based Episcopal Church, one of the many independent provinces of the Anglican Communion around the world. This year we celebrated the 150th anniversary of the dedication of our church building.
St. Augustine’s welcomes people of all nationalities and denominations. We are a multicultural congregation: a (mainly) English speaking community with members from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Malawi, Italy, Australia, South Africa, and many other countries.
Our mission is to fulfil our promises to Jesus Christ through word and deed by proclaiming his love to all. Our ministry is to all people, regardless of their cultural, national, ethnic, or religious background, who seek fellowship in the baptism of Jesus Christ.

Volunteer opportunities
We provide mentoring and financial support for refugees. The Teestube, a project of the Diakonisches Werk Wiesbaden, is a place where homeless or lonely people can get something to eat and find a place to warm up in the winter. We provide breakfast for the guests of the Teestube on three Mondays/year and a meal on Christmas Eve. We work with an Orthodox parish in Romania sending Christmas boxes and visiting on mission trips.
