Kairos Prison Ministry

Prison Services

Parishioners from St. Francis Episcopal Church participate in Kairos Prison Ministry.

About Kairos Prison Ministry:

Kairos is a Christian, volunteer, lay-led, ecumenical, international prison ministry in 31 states and in 8 other countries. We are called by God to visit the prisons and share the love of Christ with those impacted by incarceration. Kairos offers inmates the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ, and to grow in their faith and servanthood in a Christian community on the prison compound.   http://www.kairosla.org/

Prisons we visit:

Louisiana State Penitentiary; Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women

Hannah's Hands

Donation Coordination/Distribution

Hannah’s Hands is a group of crafters who enjoy sharing their talents with others. Our group formed several years ago as a prayer shawl ministry. The shawls were blessed and given to residents in an area nursing home as well as home-bound parishioners.

Knitters then began to fashion wool caps and scarves for seafarers and inland mariners. The knitted items are donated to Seaman’s Church Institute which then distribute them to the sailors.

We have also knitted baby items to go to Africa, lap robes for all of the residents of St. Anthony’s House, hats and scarves for Open Air Ministry (a ministry to the homeless). We are always on the lookout for groups or individuals who might benefit from our love of knitting.

We have now been joined by ladies who create beautiful beaded door knob blessings and Anglican rosaries.

Angel Tree Christmas Gifts to Nursing Homes

Donation Coordination/Distribution

Angel Tree is a ministry outreach program at St. Francis that provides residents of nursing homes or assisted living centers, who are alone and without family visitors, the delivery of Christmas gifts. St. Francis volunteers purchase and deliver gifts of small personal items and the Gospel to lonely senior citizens.

Community Hands

Donation Coordination/Distribution

On the first Sunday of the month, pantry staples are collected and brought to the First United Church Community Hands Food Pantry.
