All Saints' Episcopal Church

Share a story

What later became All Saints Parish first began in 1937, when Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lansing began an outreach ministry to students at Michigan State University. In 1950, St. Paul’s purchased Sigma Nu fraternity house, 444 Abbott Rd., East Lansing. Services were held there for a few years. In 1953, All Saints became incorporated as a separate parish. The land at 800 Abbott Road was purchased in 1953 and  construction began the following year. The first service in the new building was held on Ash Wednesday in 1955. There have been many renovations to the building over the years, with the newest addition being the Chapel of the Good Shepherd in 2006. All Saints has had six rectors over the course of its history. Our current rector is the Rev. Dr. Kit Carlson.

The building is mid-century style, with a nave that seats 200 people and has a medium-size pipe organ, an undercroft/parish hall below the nave that was recently refurbished with better wi-fi, digital projector and screen, and a sound system. The commercial kitchen is rented by a caterer, in addition to supporting parish events and our after-school program for teens. There is a chapel that seats 40 in the round. Three Sunday School rooms, a nursery, a lounge and a library, in addition to the church offices. Two additional rooms are leased to long-time tenant, Abbot Nursery School.

One of our restrooms is designated as an all-gender restroom and is listed on various websites as a "safe place to pee" for people of any gender identity or expression.

We are a faith community that practices radical welcome to all persons –– regardless of their age, denomination, ethnicity, nationality,  background, interests or sexual orientation.

ALL are welcome at the Altar to receive communion.
