Ministries
Lake Grove School
We have a long history of collaboration and support of Lake Grove Elementary, our adopted neighborhood school. Good Shepherd parishioners provide school supplies, books and program assistance for over 400 children.
At the beginning of each school year, generous donations purchase supplies that can be freely distributed throughout the school year. Donations may be made throughout the year by bringing items to the church office.
Seasonal opportunities to support Lake Grove Elementary include Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets and the Christmas Giving Tree.
Federal Way Community Caregiving Network
The Federal Way Community Caregiving Network and the Multi-Service Center meet at Good Shepherd on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 to help people with gas vouchers, rental assistance, and more. On Saturday afternoons at 1:00, a meal is served and assistance is also offered, including a clothing closet.
Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles
Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
Adult Formation
Adult Formation classes take place during the program year on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom.
Refugee Resettlement
Good Shepherd partners with the Refugee Resettlement Office of the Diocese of Olympia to host one family from Afghanistan, befriending them and helping meet their needs as they get acclimated to their new home among us.
Seattle Angels
Good Shepherd partners with Seattle Angels to offer ongoing support to one foster family at a time, providing friendship, gifts, and material assistance.
The Way
This small group experience for any and all followers of Christ also serves as a path to baptism, confirmation, or formal reception into the Episcopal Church. A new group forms each January and meets through May, sharing the stories of our faith, becoming better acquainted with the Gospel, and exploring our own calls to ministry in God's Church.
