Volunteer opportunities
The life blood of our Cathedral Table Ministries rests in the willing volunteers who give freely of their time, talent and treasure to support our efforts. We always welcome more.
Ministries
Cathedral Arts
The visual arts are an important part of the mission of the Cathedral. The art works that adorn the walls of our sanctuary enhance and inform our experience of sacred liturgy as well as provide opportunities for individual contemplation.
Community Dinners and Luncheon
We minister to hungry souls seeking physical sustenance through the Cathedral's many feeding programs, as well as to those seeking spiritual solace. We are grateful for a dedicated group of volunteers and the other agencies who join us in the effort.
University City Hospitality Coalition Dinner - Every Wednesday at 6:00PM
Monthly Community Luncheon every last Thursday at Noon
Cathedral Table Food Pantry
We begin our week by opening our doors to connect with our neighbors over our shared need for food, clothing and community. We are always looking for volunteers to support these ministries, and all are invited to participate. No means testing here. Nonperishable and frozen foods are distributed to 150 families weekly.
Every Monday at 9:00AM - 11:00AM
Our Closet Pop-Up Shop
This volunteer-driven program has the goal of providing the basic need of clothing to vulnerable individuals and their families. Quality clothing from casual to professional wear for adults, and children as well is provided as a true shopping experience monthly at the Cathedral.
Every 3rd Wednesday 10AM - Noon
Spiritual Formation
The Cathedral offers a variety of opportunities throughout the year fo nourish our souls and deepen our spiritual life. Along with our workship services throughout the week, the Cathedral hosts seasonal spiritual retreats that include meditation, music, poetry and sharing in small groups.
We also offer spiritual direction; relationship in which one person helps another recognize the presence of the Sacred in their lives and to nuture ways of opening further to the Sacred. This is a gentle process with roughly monthly meetings.
Godly Play
Child-centered, spiritual, and fun, Godly Play helps our children explore the spiritual dimension of their lives and build on their innate faith. Each week we tell the Biblical story in its purest form- face to face and heart to heart withing a listening circle of children. Using multisensory materials and simple, beautiful language, we tell stories from the Old and New Testaments and from our liturgical life together. We then "wonder" together about the story and have an individual art response time.
Children's Worship
Monthly we invite our children to come closer to God's table as Cathedral clergy celebrate a worship service designed especially for children. Rich with stories and symbols with plenty of opportunities for interaction, we pray, love and work together in community as we learn about Episcopal worship.
CONNECT Youth Class
Each week 6th - 8th graders go on a journey through the Old and New Testaments, exploring connections between two or three stories in a way that makes the over-arching story of our faith come alive. In each class we See, Explore, and Make. We see a witty viseo that contains challenging big ideas. We explore open-ended questions raised by the Bible story pictured and look at texts that offer more ideas. We make art, play games, and more to end our class.
Praying with Our Pens
Praying with Our Pens represents a commitment made by congregation members to stay connected to their elected officials. On a monthly basis, the community recognizes a timely social issue that reminds us of our call to love our neighbor. We provide basic information about the issue as well as a quick and relevant action you can take during coffee hour. These actions are rooted in God's commitment to justice and care for the most vulnerable among us.
Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles
Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
