WHO WE ARE

Christ Episcopal Church is a thriving 134-year-old parish located in the heart of Temple, TX. We were founded in the rich tradition of liturgy, music and service to God’s world.

Christ Episcopal Church welcomes all. Our mission is “knowing Christ and making Him known” which we do especially through worship, children’s and youth ministries, adult education, mission and outreach. We strive to continually find new and exciting ways to live out our faith life together.

Our congregation is a blend of long-time Temple families and newcomers, life-long Episcopalians and those new to the Episcopal Church. We are the spiritual home of young-adult and mid-life singles, couples of all ages, families with toddlers, elementary aged children and/or teens, as well as many active seniors in the prime of life.

Christ Episcopal Church provides lifelong discipleship for all, through worship and education, Bible and book studies, and opportunities for mission work, both within the community and beyond. We are called to build community in Christ’s name.

Churches Touching Lives for Christ

Advocacy
Donation Coordination/Distribution

C.T.L.C. is an ecumenical organization of over 30 local churches working with the support of area business and social service groups to meet basic human needs on a temporary or emergency basis. Back Pack Buddies

Donation Coordination/Distribution

Churches in Temple cooperate to provide backpacks filled with school supplies that can be given to children in the Temple Independent School District. This program is coordinated through Churches Touching Lives for Christ and Communities in Schools. We partner with 16 - 18 other churches in Temple to give children in need supplies they must have to start the school year successfully. Over 1024 students were helped last year. Back Pack Buddies allows you to "buddy up" with a child, purchasing a back pack and school supplies, and then also being a prayer "buddy" for them during the coming school year.

Samaritan's Purse (Operation Christmas Child)

Donation Coordination/Distribution

The Samaritan’s Purse is an international Relief agency that provides desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. Our Church partners with our School to participate in the Operation Christian Child Program and provide Christmas gifts and essentials to young children in need around the world.

Feed My Sheep

Food Pantries
Meal Programs

Christ Church participates in a community wide effort to feed the hungry in our community on the third Wednesday of each month. We prepare 240+ sandwiches for Temple’s Feed My Sheep ministry. We gather in the church kitchen at 9:30 AM and are usually finished between 10:15-10:30. All are welcome to help - no prior experience necessary! All are also welcome to stay around a little longer and help deliver the lunches to the Feeding Center at 10:45. The doors open there at 11:30 and clients are served until 12:30.

Another option is to join us in the church kitchen the Tuesday evening before at 5:30 PM as we put all the non-perishable food items in the lunch sacks (’Bag Prep’). This task is usually completed by 6:00 PM.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation
Sacred Ground

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
