Santa Maria Virgen Episcopal Church

Santa Maria Virgen offers excellent, faithfilled, and bilingual Spanish/English Sunday School taught by caring and dedicated volunteer teachers to children aged 3 - 12 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM, when the children rejoin their families in the Eucharist, each Sunday morning. Children and Youth aged 13 - 18 may participate in our Youth Group, which meets from 11 AM - 12 PM on Sundays, and participates in various other outreach and fellowship activities throughout the year. Sunday School and Youth Group do not meet regularly during the summer.

The Food Fair ministry of the church consists of volunteers, both adults and member of the Youth Group, who gather on the fouth Saturday of each month (excluding the months of August and December, when we do not have the Food Fair, or when the fourth Saturday falls on a holiday, in which case it is moved to the third Saturday) to serve Christ and his Kingdom, by distributing food to approxamitely 200 hungry families. The volunteers gather at the church, where first the families are registered and given numbers, then a truck from the Houston Food Bank arrives and drops off several pallets of various food items, which the volunteers bag or divide into equal quanitites for the number of families registered. Finally the cars of our hungry neighbors line up in drive through fashion around the parking lot, as the volunteers load their cars up with what generally end up being a whole lot of food! After all the food is distributed and everything put away, the volunteers enjoy some lunch and fellowship together, prepared by other volunteers from the church.

At various times of the year, usually once or twice a year, Santa Maria Virgen organizes local heath care providers and students going into the health care field to hold a Heath Fair for the community. Regular checkups, flu shots, vision screenings, breast cancer screenings and follow up care have all been provided free of charge in past fairs. The dates of the Health Fairs are not on a set schedule, so please call the office for more information.
