Ministries
Lord of the Streets (LOTS)
The mission of Lord of the Streets (LOTS) is to be the Body of Christ ministering to the spiritual, emotional, physical and social needs of the tired, the hungry and the poor, many of whom are homeless. The staff and volunteers minister to the “whole person” by nurturing the body with food and providing professional medical care and spiritual guidance for parishioners. We have many opportunities for outreach in our area. We appreciate your continued support through prayer, financial support, and active personal involvement.

Here are some of the ways St. Francis helps with the mission of LOTS
Lunches for LOTS is a program at St. Francis Church where volunteers make sandwiches and snacks for over 800 people at Lord of the Streets. The church does this at least 2 or 3 times a year. Even the children have come to love this outreach project.
Angel Tree - The Christmas Angel Tree is one of the most special outreach traditions at St. Francis. Angel ornaments on our tree represent the Christmas wish lists of families and individuals from the Case management programs at LOTS, the Beacon, Westside Homeless Partnership, Life House, and the Positive Black Male Association, all of whom have received help from St. Francis' Linda Sadler Memorial Fund. The parishioners of St. Francis choose angels from the tree and fufill the wishes of those in need.
Collection - We continually collect toiletries and other necessities to donate to Lord of the Streets. We also have special clothing and supply drives for those in need.
Memorial Assistance Ministries
Memorial Assistance Ministries or "MAM" is a voluntary coalition of religious congregations pooling resources, materials, volunteers and money, to minister to needy residents. MAM provides emergency services, a resale shop and ESL school. To read more about Memorial Assistance Ministries, visit their site at: Memorial Assistance Ministries
St. Francis helps support the ministry of MAM with generous financial donations from our congregation throughout the year as well as our annual coat drive "Kitty's Coats for Kids"
Linda Sadler Memorial Fund
The Linda Sadler Memorial Fund directed through St. Francis Episcopal Church.
Ministry is the act of serving others, whereas Outreach is the systematic attempt to provide services beyond conventional limits to a particular segment of the community. It is the act of going beyond the normal limits when reaching out.
In 2010, Jim & Leiselle Sadler, together with six generous contributors, established the Linda Sadler Memorial Fund in memory of the Sadler's daughter. It is a restricted fund designed to help a person or family that is trapped within social, cultural and /or economic systems, to take a step up and begin to realize their potential. It has been established through and with the help of St. Francis Church, to provide outreach resources that serve as a "hand-up" rather than a 'hand-out'...specifically addressing this overlooked need in the area of charitable giving.
The aim of the fund is to address the more complex root causes of people's problems and to hopefully prevent their future suffering and need by assisting them in gaining or regaining an independent, productive lifestyle.
The fund works through case management at agencies like Lord of the Streets (a mission church of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas), the Beacon (the outreach ministry of Christ Church Cathedral), Westside Homeless Partnership, and others to qualify people for assistance. Case Management has the skills to determine the "root causes" of the circumstances that trap people and identify individuals genuinely seeking to make a life-style change and serious commitment to that effort.
The Gathering
The Gathering is a monthly program that offers respite care to caregivers with loved ones experiencing memory loss or dementia from conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Stroke. The Gathering meets the first Friday of each month from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. We provide our attendees with stimulating and appropriately engaging activities such as: games, crafts, live music, presentations from the children of our Day School, and exercise. We also serve a healthy lunch prepared by our volunteers.
St. Francis Episcopal Church is just one of several congregations who partner in this special ministry throughout the Houston Area. The ministry is supported by Interfaith Care Partners who provide a professional staff member at each meeting to provide expert support and assistance to the many volunteers.
