All Souls Episcopal Church

Share a story

All Souls has been a place of welcome in the Woodley Park neighborhood for more than one hundred years, striving throughout our history to live into our mission. Today, we are a thriving parish with a diverse, dedicated and growing congregation. About one third of our community is made up of life-long Episcopalians. Of the remaining two thirds, many became Episcopalian later in life—a significant number doing so after coming to All Souls—while others are not yet Episcopalian. Former denominational affiliations include a large number of Roman Catholics and Presbyterians, as well as many other Protestant denominations, Judaism, Islam, and those with no prior religious affiliation.

A large percentage of our congregation is LGBT. Otherwise we generally reflect our neighborhood. We have a large and growing number of younger adults, in their 20s and 30s. Some find their way to All Souls for a short time, others have been here for decades. Many of us are civil servants and DC professionals. Politically mixed, we strive to be respectful of differing viewpoints as we warmly welcome all who find their way to us, no matter their similarities and differences.
