Garden of Love Lunch and Clothing Ministry

“ ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'"  Matthew 25: 44-45

The Garden of Love strives to put the above passage of scripture into action by offering a free meal and clothing to our guests each Sunday from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm. The Cathedral is joined by St. John’s-Grace Episcopal Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and other volunteers in offering this ministry. In addition to meeting physical needs, we provide some spiritual care by praying with guests and respond to their social needs by being available to talk. To honor COVID-19 precautionary measures, volunteers and guests maintain social distance and wear a mask. Whenever possible, we distributed the lunches outside in Cathedral Park. Due to weather, we sometimes distribute lunches from the double glass doors of the Flickinger Ministry Center adjacent Cathedral Park.

There are multiple ways to care for our human family through the Garden of Love:

• donate bottled water
• donate a box of single serve chips/salty snacks, granola bars and/or cookies
• donate gently used clothing, shoes, socks, and coats
• donate money by going to SPCBuffalo.org/donate
• volunteer on a Sunday by preparing lunches and/or serving lunches (lunches are prepared 10:45 – 11:45 am and served 11:45 am – 12:30 pm)

Before bringing a donation and/or volunteering, please contact the Cathedral Office at 716.855.0900.
