Worship times
A quiet, contemplative communion service, with prayers, Scripture reading, and sermon. All are welcome to participate fully in worship and communion. There is no music at the 8 a.m. service. It lasts approximately 40 minutes.
An informal, innovative service, with prayers from a variety of Anglican and ecumenical traditions, and joyful music. All are welcome to participate fully in worship and communion. Children are always welcome in worship; for those who wish, there is children’s chapel during the first half of the service, with lively music, prayers, and interactive Bible stories. The service lasts approximately one hour.
A weekly gathering on Sunday evenings for those who value silence, beauty and contemplation in prayer. The 45-minute service includes prayers, poetry, scripture, chanting and 20 minutes of silent prayer. Led by members of the community, this service welcomes all who find their way to the chapel entrance on 42nd Street. Though our prayer includes silence, our leave-taking on Sunday evenings is often filled with conversation and laughter.

A classic Episcopal service from the Book of Common Prayer. It includes chanted psalms, Scripture readings, sermon, and Holy Communion. All are welcome to participate fully in worship and communion. Children are welcome; if they wish, they may attend children’s chapel during the first half of the service. The service lasts approximately one hour.
International Relationships
Episcopal Diocese of Haiti
Through donations from St. John’s parishioners, we have paid teacher salaries at our partner school since 2007. With our help, the school has grown from 120 students, preschool to sixth grade, to nearly 400 students, preschool to tenth grade. Students are able to attend school without paying any tuition.
Friends of San Lucas
Since 2009 St. John’s has made annual trips to Guatemala to work with the Catholic Mission in San Lucas Toliman on the shore of Lake Atitlan in the western highlands. Recently we have begun to partner with a small village outside of San Lucas Toliman called Nueva Providencia.
Nueva Providencia was created after the coffee crash of 2004 when coffee prices dropped precipitously and the coffee plantation went bankrupt. The mission at San Lucas bought the land from the finca and relocated former finca workers and the survivors from of a landslide to the land that has become Nueva Providencia. Consisting of about 45 families, Nueva Providencia now has a school, a water system, and a solar-powered and hydroelectric generating system.
