St. Andrew's Episcopal Church
Share a story
We are an Episcopal Church located in the Oregon Hill neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. Like our neighborhood, we are eclectic and creative, fun and a little edgy. We enjoy being together as we seek (and struggle) to live in meaningful and life-changing ways. Each of us here has experienced God’s abundant love through this community in a variety of ways and we like sharing this experience with others, whether they’re in our community once, or visit for a short time, or make this their church home.
This website is meant to give you a taste of who we are, what we do, and offer you ways to get involved. We hope you find it helpful. And, of course, we’re happy to answer any questions you have or to make further introductions into this community. Welcome!

Volunteer opportunities
We have a plethora of ministries that could always use volunteers including worship, pastoral care, outreach, etc. The staff at St. Andrew's is also open to new lay-led ministry ideas.
Ministries
LAUNDRY MINISTRY
In 2014, the first three Grace-on-the-Hill interns began a laundry ministry in conjunction with the Oregon Hill Baptist Center (housed in Pine Street Baptist Church). The residents began to help with the weekly meal to homeless individuals. Through their involvement with this ministry, the interns realized that many of the homeless individuals who came to the Oregon Hill Center did not have the ability to do their laundry. The interns decided that they wanted to start a laundry ministry. They initially washed the clothes in their own home, but as the ministry grew this model became unsustainable. Laundry is now done at the BP Station laundromat, located at the corner of Meadow and Cary Streets.
Individuals who wish to do their own laundry go to the Oregon Hill Baptist Center for an initial intake and receive a voucher. Volunteers are available at the laundromat on Wednesday afternoons to provide quarters and supplies.
If you are interested in helping with this ministry in any way, please contact Sue Barrett, Outreach Chair.
Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles
Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
Shelter Lunches Ministry
We provide over 120 lunches for the second Saturday each month to four Richmond-area shelters. Volunteers shop for supplies, gather in our chapel to pack lunches, and deliver lunches to the shelters.
Blessings Fence
All are invited to help us fill our Blessings Fence in service to our neighborhood and our housing insecure neighbors, in particular. We welcome hand knit, purchased, or very gently used items to be hung on the fence surrounding the church, especially during the winter months.
