Who We Are...

St. Paul’s is a lively community, devoted to God through our Anglican worship tradition, and to service to others through outreach. For 150 years, the parish has been located in the heart of Downtown Canton, responding to the needs at our doorstep and offering rich cultural and spiritual experience to the wider community. Together with Mt. Olive Baptist Church and StarkFresh, we have launched a more than year-long effort called "Courageous Conversations" to address racism and ways to counter its continuing impact on Canton and the surrounding community. We also embrace music through our monthly concert and compline series.  St. Paul's hosts the interfaith Thanksgiving Baskets downtown, and has served the community for more than four decades through food ministries, including HOT lunch on the third Saturday of each month and a meal-and-movie night for families the fourth Friday of each month.  Last year, it became home to a "Meals on Wheels" distribution center. Its "firsts" as the first Episcopal church in Stark County include housing children orphaned by the flu pandemic after World War I, the first preschool for inner-city children in Canton and the first consignment shop serving downtown. We offer meeting space and support to community groups, including NA and AA.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation
Sacred Ground

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
