Christ Episcopal Church
Share a story
Known as the “Parish in the Heart of the City,” Christ Church Episcopal is blessed by the beauty of its physical surroundings, which have been preserved and expanded by the energy and vision of its faithful stewards, both past and present. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the church’s vision has become a reality under the outstanding leadership and commitment of our clergy, staff and lay leadership, and parishioners.
Our mission is to embrace, equip, and empower apostles to serve Jesus Christ. We value our community, compassion, faithfulness, gratefulness, and we are inviting to all.
Christ Church is home to a diverse group of parishioners, composed of individuals who live in Greenville proper as well as various communities in and around the Upstate. We are a house of worship, prayer, education, and caring for all people, both in our parish and within our community, and offer a place for everyone.
From its humble beginnings as a mission in the unsettled Piedmont region of South Carolina, Christ Church has grown into a downtown church of 4,000 strong – a warm, welcoming, faithful parish. We are called to be A Joyful Community Sharing Life in Jesus Christ, and we strive to live out our vision in several ways:
Worship times
Traditional Communion service with homily and time-honored forms and prayers.
The format and music of this service will most closely resemble the former contemporary service held in the church, including traditional Prayer Book liturgy with a shorter, 55-minute time frame as well as a worship band. Casual attire is encouraged.
Communion service with sermon, adult and children's choirs, and musical variety. Children's Church is offered for children K5 - 2nd grade. A nursery is available during this service for infants - K2.
The celebration of the daily office is a rich tradition in Anglicanism, and this service format allows us to experience the breadth and depth of the Book of Common Prayer while still maintaining a more contemplative atmosphere. This service will include a celebration of the Eucharist, candles, incense on occasion, and congregational music.
Volunteer opportunities
The vision of Christ Church is to be a joyful community sharing life in Jesus Christ. Getting involved in the life of the parish is one of the many ways we live into our vision. Below is a quick survey which once completed will allow our Volunteer Coordinator, Holly Melton, to offer some direction on where you can get involved. Our desire is for you to find fulfillment in your service with and to others, so if you discover a certain ministry is not for you, let us know and we will get you connected somewhere else.
