Ministries

Shepherd's Table

Meal Programs

A few time each year, members of St. James prepare and serve meals to people in Montgomery County who otherwise might not be able to have food.

Youth Mission Trip

Children and Youth Ministries

Each year, members of the youth group travel to another location to serve people who are in need (usually with home repairs).  They also worship together, grow in their faith, and develop meaningful friendships.

Backpack Drive

Donation Coordination/Distribution

Each summer, St. James purchases school materials and sorts them into many backpacks that are then donated to local children in need before school starts in the fall.

Christmas Gift Program

Donation Coordination/Distribution

St. James partners with the Bishop Walker School to provide gifts to students there each Christmas season.

Rain Garden

Creation Care/Community Gardens

St. James works hard to be good stewards of the environment.  This has included increasing the energy efficiency of the buildings.  It also includes significant re-purposing of the grounds of church to include a native-plant rain garden, an interfaith greenway, and efforts supporting pollinators.

Haiti partnership

Mission Trips and Partnerships

St. James has hosted the Episcopal priest from our partner church and school in Haiti, and is organizing trips from St. James to visit and support that congregation and school.

Youth Group service projects

Children and Youth Ministries

The St. James youth group participates in a service project about once each month.  Please contact the church to find out the upcoming service opportunities.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation
Sacred Ground

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith.  Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society.  This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups.  Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
