St. James' Church

Share a story

St. James’ is a vibrant, open, joyful, fun-loving community of faith. We are intentional about growing in relationship with God and one another, about caring for the earth God created, and about serving the needs of the world God loves. Whether you are passing through the area, in town for a while, or looking for a spiritual home, we are delighted to welcome you.

St. James’ Episcopal Church is located on East Genesee Street in downtown Skaneateles. We are blessed to be right on the water capturing the amazing views of Skaneateles Lake with renovations such as a handicap walkway and elevator making the building far more accessible for all.

It is a great blessing for us to offer four unique services each week, providing a diverse range of worship options from quiet contemplative to formal to high-energy praise services. All Sunday Worship is In-Person. Eucharist or Communion is celebrated at every Sunday service. Currently, the Wednesday 6pm Evening Prayer worship, and Sunday 9am & 10:45am are live-streamed to Facebook.com/StJamesSkaneateles to allow for those to worship at home or "where you are".  St. James' offers a wide variety of programming from Dive Deeper Bible Study on Tuesdays 10:30am to Sacred Ground film discussion series.  St. James' invites everyone to worship whenever and wherever you are-there is no dress code or expectation required!

Ongoing commitment opportunities
Opportunities for mission groups

At St. James’, we provide opportunities to serve and lead in various ministries allowing people to achieve their higher purpose. A new "Getting Involved" Guide has been created and available upon request.

Volunteers (or Servant Leaders) are at the heart of the growth and operation of our church. Because of volunteers assisting in so many facets, our church can remain viable and accessible to today’s diverse community. In addition, by utilizing volunteers and supporting our mission of igniting passion for Jesus Christ to change lives, we are a closer parish family.

The office of volunteer services assists parishioners in discovering talents and spiritual gifts, matches individuals with ministry options that best fit each talent, and showcases the positive outcomes to the entire church community.  This department strives to be the resource hub where parishioners of all ages and talents come to fill ministries large and small found both within the walls of St. James’ and in the community at large.

Together we all can make a difference and serve Jesus actively fulfilling our purpose.

Should you have any questions regarding how you can become a Volunteer (Servant leader) or learn more about St. James’ ministries, please contact Laura Posecznick at laura@stjamesskan.org for a complete ministry guide of all St. James' offers in the church and in its outreach.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation
Sacred Ground

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith.  Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society.  This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups.  Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.

Racial Justice & Reconciliation

Racial Reconciliation

Through interest from many parishioners, St. James' has formed a Racial Justic & Reconciliation Commission to do our part in the community. This group of active volunteers meets regularly and is commetted to sharing important information regarding Racial Justice. This Commision shares resource material on StJamesSkan.org and within the St. James' Weekly Newsletter in the column entitled Did You Know?.
