St. Luke's Episcopal Church

We are the people of St. Luke’s – an active caring parish in central New Jersey called to worship by honoring God’s Presence among us, to celebrate Christ’s love in joyful fellowship and Christian education for all ages, and to serve people near and far in loving action and generosity. Many of us, newcomers and long-time members alike, use the word “home” to describe our feelings about St. Luke’s Church.
We are a family church with strong programs for children and youth, including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Confirmation, a Middle School Youth Group and a Senior High Youth Group. Our Sunday morning worship is traditional and Sunday evening worship is most often contemporary. We are blessed with talented musical leadership, an excellent organ, adult and children’s choirs, a hand bell choir and a praise team for the Sunday evening contemporary service.
We worship in the Episcopal/Anglican way, based on the Book of Common Prayer, making full use of the rich heritage of Anglican music. However, we have many members who come from a range of denominational backgrounds and who feel very comfortable at St. Luke’s.
We are serious about formation, growing in discipleship and living an authentic expression of the Christian faith. Through preaching on Sundays, several weekly Bible studies and a lively program of Christian education, we explore our faith – its roots and its scriptures, its certainties and its mysteries.
St. Luke’s is a vibrant Christian community that welcomes all people to join us for worship, fellowship and involvement that extends beyond Sundays.

Ministries
Bible Study
We have four weekly bible studies, a mom's Bible Study group, a Monday night Bible Study, the rector's Bible Study that meets at 12:15pm on Mondays and the Men's Bible Study that is also led by the rector on Saturday mornings at 8:45am.
Alpha
We regularly run the Alpha Series -- a fresh look at Christianity that is especially for those who have questions. It is a joyful gathering that includes dinner. The series is produced by the Alpha Ministry that comes from Holy Trinity Brompton, a church in London, in the Church of England.
Mission Partnerships
We go to Guatemala each year to build homes for people living in cornstalk shacks with dirt floors. We also do service projects in our region, having worked in the inner-city of Philadelphia and helping resettle refugees.
Children's Sunday School and Youth Groups
We offer Sunday School on Sunday mornings and do Vacation Bible School each summer. We have a Middle School youth group and a High school youth group. We run a 2 year confirmation program for 7th and 8th grade students. The first year is Bible immersion.
Partnership with Citadel of Faith
St. Luke’s has entered into a partnership with a multi-ethnic church in the inner-city of Detroit, Citadel of Faith, with pastor Harvey Carey. That partnership has consisted in twice a month zoom meetings with members of St. Luke’s and members of Citadel of faith to talk about how our Christian faith impacts racism and the issues of our times. Those calls have included special guests including, the African-American Sheriff of Washtenaw County Michigan to speak about police reform, the chaplain for the Detroit Tigers Major League Baseball Team to address MLB’s decision to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta because of the Georgia voting law, and Richard Rothstein, the author of the Color of Law. In addition, our leadership team for this partnership had several other meetings with Richard Rothstein to share about our partnership and assist with research for the new book he is in the process of writing. We also have created a resource list of books, articles, podcasts and videos that address various aspects of racial reconciliation. We have had Bible studies that allow us to hear differing perspectives on Scripture and how it relates to racial reconciliation and justice issues today. This process has been difficult at times, but enlightening for all as we listen to one another and more fully appreciate perspectives that are different from our own. We have also celebrated the unity we have in Christ, despite differing political and ideological perspectives of the various participants on these Zoom partnership calls.
International Relationships
From Houses to Homes
We send mission teams each year to Guatemala to build homes for people living in cornstalk shacks with dirt floors. We walk alongside of the family that will be living in the home. We receive so much more than we give each time we go!
