Volunteer opportunities
St. Luke's invites everyone to share in our Christian life, bringing church members and nonmembers together to strengthen their Christian faith and belief in God by creating an atmosphere that allows Christians to minister and demonstrate to others God's word of "love one another." Those opportunities at St. Luke's include Evangelism (joyfully spreading the good news of the Gospel and bringing people into the church to seek their own personal faith experience through Jesus Christ), Children's Christian Education (see below), Acolytes (see below), Adult Christian Education ( helps with identifying topics of study, excellent presenters and execution of Sunday morning Adult Education), Women's Bible Study (see below), Men's Bible Study (see below), Hospitality (see below), Vacation Bible School (see below), Altar Guild (has the sacred task of preparing the worship space and altar each Sunday and for special worship services throughout the year, caring for altar vessels and vestments, flowers, and setting the altar for Holy Communion at each celebration of the Sacrament), Hospitality (see below), Just One Food Drive (see below), Landscape (keeping the buildings and grounds of St. Luke's neat, clean, safe and presentable , addressing maintenance needs and assisting in developing plans for future improvements), Music Ministry (welcomes those with a passion to make a joyful noise to the Lord in providing worshipful and inspiring music for our Sunday worship services and at other special occasions throughout the year), Outreach (extending a helping hand into the community through providing needed support and physical needs to others), Piedras Negras (see below), Stewardship (seeks to foster a culture and discipline of year round Stewardship focusing on using all of God's gifts, our time, talent and treasure, for furthering God's kingdom in gratitude for all of life's blessings), and Men's and Women's Group Reunions.
Ministries
Vacation Bible School
Every year, the third week of July, St. Luke's holds a week long Vacation Bible School using Group's Holy Land Adventures. God's word comes alive as families explore traditional Bible-times customs, occupations, food, and even games! We practice multi-age learning. Elementary-age kids and teens travel in intergenerational Tribes with big kids and little kids working together. Older children help younger children and younger children spark older childrens' imaginations. Every day kids and adults join a Tribe of Israel. During tribe time, tribal families explore Jewish customs, meet Jesus and his friends, visit the marketplace, and might even participate in chariot races on the playground, periodically having their attention drawn to exciting dramas. Tribes gather everyday to sing and dance to lively music especially created for each program. St. Luke's goes all out for VBS in decorating, costumes and traditional foods.
Children's Christian Education
This ministry includes Sunday School Teachers of children ages pre-school to high school. Together they provide thoughtful and engaging spiritual formation for our children.
Women's Bible Study
The Women's Bible Study meets every Tuesday morning from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in our Parish Hall for Bible Study. Normally we study a book from the Bible by chapter each week, but we have also shared books including Experiencing God, Horizontal Jesus, St. Benedict's Tool Box and The Story. There is much lively discussion, sharing and loving support. All ages are welcome.
Acolytes
All children ages eight and up are invited to join our Acolyte Team. Acolytes lead our procession, serve the altar and assist the clergy in creating lively, meaningful and beautiful worship each week.
Men's Bible Study
The Men's Bible Study meets every Wednesday morning from 6:30 am to 7:30 am in the Parish Hall.
Hospitality
The Hospitality Committee plans and provides opportunities for Fellowship throughout the year centered on sharing meals together. These opportunities include lovely food offerings, coffee and tea every Sunday between services and monthly pot luck or prepared meals following the 10:45 am service.
Piedras Negras
Parishioners from St. Luke's, in conjunction with other parishes, support the sewing mission for Anglican Church of El Buen Pastor in Piedras Negras. In addition to providing materials and personal sewing training to the women of Piedras Negras, the mission collects and delivers donations of food, clothing and household items to be distributed by the Parish Priest and participates in the maintenance of the sewing building.
Just One Food Drive
Strong support is needed to help provide non-perishable foods to help stock the food banks. Each parishioner is asked to provide one item each week.
