Who We Are

Located in Covington, a charming town near New Orleans, Christwood is a not-for-profit Life Plan Community, also known as a continuing care retirement community, designed for today’s older adults. We offer the best of all worlds with concierge living, resort-style amenities, convenient services and easy access to healthcare. Best of all, our affordable, predictable monthly fee covers virtually everything.

Our History

In the early 1980s, the Northshore’s population grew rapidly but seniors in the area had few retirement living options. In 1989, Father Steve Holzhalb, then rector of Christ Episcopal Church, proposed the idea of Christwood. He recruited Jack Lohman as Executive Director, and with the support of the Church’s Vestry, they explored the feasibility of creating a retirement community in Covington, Louisiana. After proving the need for a vibrant, secure lifestyle for older adults, Christwood opened its doors in May 1996.
