Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi elects first Black, first female bishop

"At St. George’s, the number of people involved in community ministries grew by 500% under her leadership, including serving as volunteers for Room in the Inn-Memphis, a ministry that provides women and children an evening meal, breakfast and a clean, quiet and safe place to sleep in churches and public spaces across the city.

'She’s led us into really a whole plethora of community ministries, everything from tutoring to providing backpacks, coats, meals and blessings the backpacks,' said Perry Pennington, head of the vestry at St. George’s."
